What Are The Causes?

According to the NHS, stress is a reaction to mental or emotional pressure. It is often attributed to the feeling where you feel like you are losing control of something or a situation. However, there is no default cause for it. What  triggers one person may not affect someone else in the same way.

WebMD has noted some common causes of stress, these include:

  • Work-related, such as being overworked, underpaid or working long hours.
  • Death of a loved one.
  • Losing your job.
  • Financial pressure.
  • Marriage.
  • Long-term situations, such as moving house.
  • Emotional issues & negative life events.
  • Trauma.

It is clear from this list that a lot of people from many walks of life may experience some kind of stress at any point.

What Can Stress Lead Too?

Whilst we all may endure a little bit of stress every now again is not something to be concerned about. However, If exposure to stressors are prolonged, it can lead to serious health problems.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, stress can lead to mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and at the latter end of the spectrum personality disorders. Stress can also cause a weakened immune system, it may lead to heart disease, high blood pressure as well as heart attacks and strokes. How To Combat Stress

As we just mentioned in the previous section, stress can lead to serious health issues, so stress management is essential.

We feel that there are three brilliant ways to reduce stress naturally.

Someone running

Exercise

One brilliant stress buster is exercise. Whilst exercising won’t make it disappear, it can certainly clear your head. You could say that due to the endorphins you release whilst exercising have a positive effect on your brain by reducing the symptoms of stress.

A simple jog or bike ride is a great way to clear your head and you can finish it with a clear mind. Alternatively, weight lifting keeps you concentrated on the weights at hand which can keep your mind off whatever is stressing you.

Relaxation

Just taking some time to yourself can be the thing you need. Find something that relaxes you such as socialising or relaxation at home. Whether that be out with your friends or at home by yourself watching a movie, we all have these things that relax us and help relieve stress and anxiety.

Some relaxation techniques that we love are

  • Colouring Books
  • Digital Detoxes
  • Bath/Shower
  • Classic Film

Talking

Just talking to people can help you manage your stress levels. A good support network of your friends and family can help you with whatever you are going through. They not only offer support, but they can offer a different viewpoint on things and help you work through your stressful situation.

If you feel like you need to talk to someone but don’t know who to talk to, a family member or friends is always best. Likewise, Samaritans are always on hand to listen to whatever you need.
